Grant Elementary Principal Mary Weber today was surprised with an announcement that she had been selected as the Principal on Parade for Spokane’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The announcement was made during a special afternoon assembly on Monday, March 7, at Grant Elementary, 1300 E. Ninth Ave. As part of Weber's selection, Grant Elementary received a $1,000 donation from STCU and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, co-sponsors of the contest.
Weber has been invited to ride in the parade with Christina Brown, the fifth-grader who nominated her. Like Weber, Christina learned Monday that, among the hundreds of nominations submitted, hers was the winner.
"There's 100,000,000 ways she's good," Brown wrote about her principal. "She always smiles at you a lot, not a creepy smile but a nice kind smile. There's only one Mrs. Weber in the U.S.A."

An annual event since 1979, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year features Patty Duke as the grand marshal. The parade starts at noon Saturday, March 12, in downtown Spokane.
The Principal on Parade contest is a longtime feature of the parade. STCU is a new sponsor.
